It Works

Reading this first makes the film that much more impressive!

This is very cool.... Read the article first, then click to see the video...Just Unbelievable!

And you thought those people that set up room fulls of dominoes to knock over were amazing... There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film. Everything you see really happened in real time exactly as you see it.

The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up again.

The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. By the time it was over, they were ready to change professions.

The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete including full engineering of the sequence.

In addition, it's two minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on British television, they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for a lifetime.

However, it is fast becoming the most downloaded advertisement in Internet history.

Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for itself simply in "free viewings" (Honda isn't paying a dime to have you watch this commercial!). When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it immediately without any hesitation - including the costs.

There are six and only six hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make the film. Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp, and complete Honda Accord) is parts from those two cars.

The voice over is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer graphics have gotten. They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for real. Oh and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing their thing automatically as soon as they become wet. It looks a bit weird in the commercial.

Healthy In Paranoid Times

So I went up to the Great White North over the weekend and saw Our Lady Peace at a theater in Vancouver. Now, those of you who know me know that I have seen (I think) a significant number of shows. It was at this one show that the band interacted with the crowd 5 ways that each by themselves would have been incredible. But this was all in 1 show.....

1. The show was in a theater so the seating was assigned. As soon as OLP got onstage Raine Maida told everyone to get out of their seats and come down to the front. The crowd entheusiastically oblidged. Security was pretty pissed but no one really cared what they thought.

2. During the 4th or 5th song of their set, Raine went up into the balcony and escorted EVERYONE sitting on that level down to join him and the band onstage for the entire show. They formed a semi-circle behind the band and danced and sang all night.

3. The band took a few minutes between songs to answer a some questions fans submitted to their website. The question "What do you think of the state of the world right now?" was asked. Everyone booed. Raine followed up with "I totally agree. Next question....."

4. Raine asked if anyone in the crowd had a recording device and found one right away. He got the device and a quick lesson on how to work it then proceeded to sing a new song and instructed the owner to distribute the recording on the net so everyone in the world could hear it.

5. Raine asked the crowd if anyone wanted to come onstage and sing 4AM. After an audition or two, he found a guy that was decent. The band played the song with this new frontman singing. The crowd then joined in singing the song with him as Raine and the rest of the band played in the background.

Our Lady Peace is giving rock back to the average joes 1 show at a time.....
